How To Remove Dust Mites Farms From Your Carpet
Our carpet is a perfect environment for growing and collecting dust mites in addition to other common household allergens. Pollen, dust, soil, crumbs, and other debris fall onto the floor and are caught in the fibers of the carpet. Since dust mites feed on human skin cells (large component of dust) and allergens the carpeting provides a feast for dust mites.
The bugs themselves carry no diseases but dust mite feces affect about 50 to 80 percent of all asthma suffers. Dust mites live in carpet, upholstery, and mattresses and become airborne when the fibers are disturbed. As people walk on the carpet, they stir up the settled bits of allergens, causing them to become air-borne. Once air-borne, they are easily inhaled and trigger an allergic reaction (sneezing, red eyes, wheezing).
Here are some tips to get rid of these pesky bugs living in your carpets.
- Vacuum the carpet at least once a week. HEPA vacuum machines filter out more dust mites than a regular machine.
- If you are a pet lover, have their beds as far from yours as possible. Furry pets contribute to the dust and dander- this is a food source for dust mites.
- Reduce air infiltration. Airing out the house with open windows allows entry of pollen, which is another allergen as well as food for dust mites. In some climates, incoming air may be humid, which promotes dust mites. Keep the windows closed, as outside air contains pollen, which is also a food source for dust mites. Outside air may also be humid, which promotes growth of dust mites.
- Clean the carpets thoroughly at least once a year. This is done through a professional deep cleaning which cleans to the bottom of the carpet fibers as well as sanitizes and kills the dust mites, bacteria, toxins, and pollen.
